There's no doubt about it, weddings can be expensive. The average cost of a wedding today is $20,000 - $25,000, and weddings are estimated to be a $25.3 billion industry. But don't worry if your budget cannot stretch for the most expensive custom-made gown, elegant invitation cards, or the top photographer, it doesn't mean that your wedding will be any less unique or special than anyone else's.

You just need a bit of guidance and a few tips to help you achieve the dream of your big day. Here are a few suggestions with tips on how to save on some of the more expensive aspects of a wedding.

Wedding Gowns

Do you really need a hand-made wedding dress with beads and diamantes? This is where the big cost is and there are several options in cutting the cost. Why not opt for a second-hand wedding dress? It's probably only been worn once anyway and you can get a once expensive dress for half the price. Consider buying an evening gown/cocktail dress from a department store or look into renting your wedding dress for the day.

The Reception

This is where the cost of a wedding can get out of hand. The wedding reception is normally the biggest expense, but one of the easiest to cut down on costs. Statistics show that an average of 189 guests attend a wedding, this is a lot. Try and keep your guest list to a minimum, do you really need to invite family members who you have never seen for years? Instead of a three-course meal why not opt for a hot and cold buffet (even cater for yourself)? Instead of holding the reception in an expensive hotel suite or wedding reception, why not consider having it at someone's home or a club, or even book a restaurant. Keep an open bar to a minimal and only serve beer, wine and soft drinks.

Photography

The obvious choice is to shop around for the best rates, but consider hiring a photographer for the ceremony only and ask a family member or friend to take snap photos of the reception. Or you could go one step further and ask them to take the photographs for the whole day and not bother with the expense of a photographer at all.

Invitations / Stationery

If you're on a budget and looking for cheaper wedding stationery items, then you might like to consider print-at-home stationery. There are many online stationer's that will offer this service free of charge. You pay for the paper and envelopes, then use their software to print directly from your own PC. With sophisticated customization tools you'll be able to enter your own text and preview it before you print so as not to make any costly mistakes. Alternatively, you can buy software and do-it-yourself from your PC.

Miscellaneous

Flowers can be another great expense, but also an unnecessary one. Why not buy wholesale flowers, or pick flowers from your garden (or a friends or relatives). Buy plain gold or white gold wedding bands as these are the cheapest. Get a friend to make your wedding cake for you and opt for a smaller tier cake and it doesn't have to be a fruit cake - try a sponge, chocolate or carrot cake! Make your favors and center-peices yourself. Accessories for these can be found at little outlet stores or online. Lastly, instead of a limousine why not rent a car or borrow a luxury car from a friend or relative?

Summary

Weddings are expensive if you want them to be. But if you want to keep money aside for a deposit on a house or a honeymoon to remember, then there are many cost cutting ideas. All you need is a little imagination, and some help from friends and family and you too can have a luxury wedding with all the trimmings

Selecting a wedding photographer can be a daunting task. Not only does the photographer need to be able to produce outstanding memories of your wedding day but also has to be able to fit into the celebration and be highly professional every step of the way.

Often couples make the mistake of basing their decision on wedding photography entirely on price. At the end couples that decide on price get what they pay for.

It is wise to keep your budget in mind when selecting a photographer but it should not be an excuse no to do your homework and evaluate the quality and professionalism of the photographer. Remember, you will have to live with the consequences of your decision.

How to evaluate a wedding photographer?

The style of the wedding photography is very important. Is the photographer a photojournalist with heavy emphasis in documenting the wedding without directing? Do you prefer posed photographs with preplanned posing and controlled lights? Most couples these days prefer a combination of journalistic and traditional wedding photography. They look for a photographer that can capture the true emotion and spirit of the celebration as well as portraits that deserve to be framed.

Whatever style you prefer the photographer has to be a master of the craft. Take a close look at the photographer's portfolio. Is the work consistent? Insist on looking at a complete wedding. After photographing 20 weddings, it is easy to have 20 lucky shots. Very few photographers have the guts to show you a complete wedding. Only the good ones do.

Are the photographs a true representation of the photographer's work?
If you are considering a studio that has several photographers insist on looking at the work of the photographer that is going to photograph your wedding.

Does the studio or photographer offer high quality albums and custom printing? Nowadays it is common for some photographers to offer to photograph the wedding and hand you the proofs and a CD or the negatives with the photos and be done with you. Are you going to be happy with a set of proofs or would you want a fine album with custom printed photographs?

Has the photographer been in business for a considerable amount of time? Is this his first wedding? Is he a commercial or sports photographer beginning wedding photography? There is nothing wrong with starting out in a different photography field but you, as the client, need to know this. Wedding photography requires special artistic, technical, and people skills and a wedding it is not the place for a beginner to learn. Somebody interested in learning wedding photography should perhaps accompany a seasoned pro to weddings for some time before venturing out on his own.
Does the photographer carry good quality equipment and backup of camera bodies, lenses, tripod, lights etc? You will be surprised to learn that many photographers go to weddings with only one camera. God help you if that camera breaks in the middle of your wedding.

Personality plays a very important role in wedding photography. Hire the wrong photographer and you and your guests will suffer the consequences. Does the photographer listen to you? Does he have a controlling personality? Does he abide by the rules of the church, temple, or synagogue? Does he want to steal the show and be the center of attention? Does he have people skills? Does he dress professionally? Does he look and smell clean?

Before hiring your photographer please make sure that you answer all the questions above. As a last precaution check with the Better Business Bureau to see if there are unsolved complains against your potential photographer.
Have a happy wedding and enjoy your beautiful photos. Please don't forget to feed your photographer he or she will be working hard to capture your wedding memories.

Hotels have become great places to get married, many hotels are now licensed as wedding venues to perform the ceremony as well as host the reception. You are not limited to finding a hotel wedding venue that is close to home either, turn it into a trip for both you and you loved ones. Try a large exciting metropolitan city or maybe a quaint picturesque countryside. As long as there is a hotel there that caters to weddings and your guests are all fine with travel, it can be the perfect setting for your wedding.

The best part about having a hotel wedding venue is that they have probably conducted numerous weddings and know exactly what to do to make the bride and groom happy. Their reception hall can be magically transformed into something spectacular, and they have the expertise to handle the cleanup afterwards. If you choose to have the ceremony at the hotel, it's even better for a number of reasons. It's convenient for both you and your guests, there is no need to worry about transportation, and best of all if your guests are staying at the hotel they don't have to worry about getting too drunk.

A hotel wedding venue makes everything much more convenient. Most hotels will have a bridal suite where the bride and bridesmaids can go to get ready for the ceremony or just to relax. If they conduct ceremonies, there will be a dedicated room for the ceremony which should look lovely if you choose a really nice hotel. The reception will then be held in a room that is big enough to fit all the tables you need for the number of guests, plus have a dance floor and bar. The bride and groom can stay in a honeymoon suite after the festivities while guests who choose to stay can book their own rooms. The morning after, the happy couple can have breakfast with their loved ones in a formal dining area.

Fancier hotels are accustomed to holding many weddings, you will find that most of them have wedding packages of their own. They will generally charge per person, making it easier for you to work it out in your budget. If the cost will be too high for the number of guests you had in mind, try trimming the guest list to make it affordable. 5 Star hotels are known for their excellent service and choosing one to hold your wedding will be no exception. Many of these top notch hotels will provide a wedding planner to help you every step of the way. If they don't use their own vendors for things like flowers, decorations, wedding cake and entertainment, they are sure to have some great recommendations.

There are only a few minor disadvantages for choosing a hotel wedding venue. Really big hotels might have more than one wedding event on the same day which may be a bit of an inconvenience. You also have to remember that they have other hotel guests to look after. This might mean that the festivities will be cut short in consideration of not disturbing other people. You may even feel like having a hotel wedding is not unique enough. They conduct so many weddings that your wedding will feel cookie cutter. However, with so many advantages, these can easily be overlooked.

Between the dress, flowers, booking the venue, and music, weddings are already expensive. Add to that the price of having to feed a large group of people and the cost gets even higher. Before you start budgeting your retirement money to pay for a wedding now, don't worry! There are several things you can do to lower the price of food and drink at your reception.

Food

There are options your guests will love that won't break your bank. When reflecting back on the event guests won't be talking about what was served, rather they'll remember how great it tasted.

* Having a buffet is a great way to lower the cost. You won't have to pay per person and your guests will be able to choose what they want to eat. Also, because you won't have a set menu, you will have the opportunity to incorporate some of your favorite dishes into the buffet. Foods like vegetable trays, sandwich trays, and cold cuts are all inexpensive options.
* Serving comfort foods at your reception is another fun way to lower the cost. Foods like barbecue, mashed potatoes, and macaroni-n-cheese are all relatively cost-efficient and can liven up the party. This tip works best if you are having a summer wedding or hosting a wedding in the South.
* If you want a creative idea, try serving appetizers only. Guests can fill up on these little finger foods and they have the ability to eat and dance at the same time.

Drinks

Food isn't the only part of the meal that is important to a reception. Drinks serve several purposes at a party; from making the toast to washing down your meal. There are ways to trim some of your expenses here too.

* Instead of having an open bar, opt for beer and wine instead. Many guests will enjoy one or the other and not even notice they don't have the liquor option.
* Who says you need champagne to have a toast? If you skip the champagne and let the guests toast with whatever is in their glasses, you can save a good bit of money. It isn't what they're drinking that's important, it's that they all came out to celebrate with you.
* Developing a signature cocktail is a creative way to express yourself and cut costs. With signature drinks you can limit the alcohol used to more cost-efficient options.

Cake

The cake is often seen as the heart and soul of the party, but there are ways to limit the expenses paid on this decadent dessert.

* Instead of having a cake, have a tower of cupcakes. They can be decorated as beautifully as a traditional cake, but they are ready right away for serving. Each guest receives the same portion size and it's an overall fun way to serve dessert.
* Get your cake at a local grocery store instead of a wedding cake boutique. They often taste just as good, but can cost several hundred dollars instead of several thousand.
* You can have a smaller cake with mostly fake layers and then behind the scenes, cut up a sheet cake to serve to your guests. It will taste delicious, but won't have the same cost associated with it as a grand scale, tiered wedding cake.

Whether you are a wedding planner or planning your own wedding, there is no reason to scrimp on elegance to stay within a budget. The most important thing your guests take home from the wedding isn't leftovers: it's memories.

One of the most important choices that you will have to make about your wedding is where to get married. Outdoor wedding ceremonies are wildly popular, but of course so are traditional church weddings. These are some tips to help you decide if an outdoor or a church wedding ceremony is right for you.

If you have always wanted to get married in a church, you do not have a decision to make. But for many couples, choosing between a church wedding and one held outdoors is a big choice. It can come down to the style of wedding they want, whether or not they can have a religious ceremony outdoors, pleasing parents, and even their future religious plans. That is a lot to sort out! While family beliefs often play a strong part in the debate, ultimately it is two people getting married who have to agree.

The best reason to opt for a church wedding is if you want your marriage to take place inside the house of God. In some faiths, having your marriage officially recognized by your church requires that you be married in one. This is true for Catholics, because priests will not perform the sacrament of marriage outside of a church. In rare cases, it is possible to have the marriage blessed and officially recognized by the Catholic church after a non-Catholic ceremony, but it is not easy. The couple should also consider how the fact that some parishes may be concerned about baptizing their children or allowing them to be godparents if they did not show enough commitment to their Catholic faith to be married by a priest. If those matters are a concern to you, a church wedding is the way to go. Keep in mind that you can always have an outdoor reception following the ceremony.

In some religious traditions, such as many branches of Christianity and Judaism, it is possible to have a religious ceremony performed outside. In those instances, the choice is more about the style of wedding, family issues, and of course the weather. Outside ceremonies can be deemed as too non-traditional by more conservative parents sometimes. Maybe your father always imagined that he would get to walk you down the aisle of the same church in which he and your mother tied the knot while you wear her bridal jewelry. That can be a pretty hard vision to convince your father to give up. Or maybe your mother wants to see you wear the kind of ballgown, long veil, and elegant bridal jewelry which will look lovely in a church but overdone for outdoors.

Weather can also be a factor in the decision about where to wed. If you happen to get a glorious day with blue skies and low humidity, it makes a spectacular backdrop for a marriage ceremony. On the other hand, if the day is rainy and gray, much of the appeal of your outdoor site will be diminished. If you are the kind of person who has little patience for less-than-perfect weather, the church wedding will be safer. But if you never let a little rain dampen your spirits, you could be perfectly happy with an outdoor wedding.

In the end, each couple has to weigh all the different factors to determine if they should have their wedding in a church or outdoors. When you are happy about where you will be married, it will definitely make the whole wedding feel more special.

So, the question has been popped and you've said yes! Now the planning starts...

Finding a venue, organizing your photographer and planning your once in a lifetime honeymoon is just the start of your 'to-do' list.

But what about keeping your guests entertained on your big day?

One of the most unique wedding entertainment ideas is to hire a wedding caricaturist to keep your guests entertained.

So, just how do you go about hiring a caricaturist for your wedding day entertainment and what should you expect? Here are 6 top tips to help you get the ultimate wedding entertainment for your big day that will have your guests rolling in the aisle with laughter!!

1. Where to find your caricaturist

Your first step is to make a general search for 'Wedding Caricaturists' in search engines. Make sure to look at the image results for these searches which will give you a really good idea of what to expect from a wedding caricaturist. Most caricaturists are surprisingly sympathetic with their drawings, with an emphasis on gentle humour rather than the more cruel satirical caricatures you may have seen in newspapers and magazines.

You can also search for entertainment agencies for caricaturists. This may help you to feel more secure with your booking but can add an extra cost than hiring a caricaturist direct.

2. Check out local caricaturists websites

Tighten your search to local results. Find out who in your local area is offering a wedding caricature service. Working with a local artist may save you some cost that a caricaturist further afield may charge for travel (and occasionally accommodation if the distance is great).

3. Check out past customer testimonials

Any caricaturist worth considering will have a website of images and reviews from past customers. If the caricaturist is any good at all these will be easily available for you to review. Check the dates of the reviews left to make sure they are recent and the caricaturist is not just riding on distant successes.

4. Check out their pricing

Most caricaturists charge by the hour and a minimum booking of 2 hours is the norm. Prices can range from £150 - £350 for a two-hour booking. For this, your guests will usually receive a black and white caricature that should really take no more than 4 or 5 minutes each - often faster.

5. Check out their galleries

Price is not always the best indicator of quality. While you are looking at the site, check out the gallery of party caricature images. What do you think of the likeness? Would you be happy for your guests to receive one of the images as a gift from you?

6. Get in contact!

Email a few caricaturists and get a feel for how they communicate with you. Are they friendly and warm or are they more business-like? Do you get your questions answered fully and in good time?

Once a few emails have passed, a quick call to finalize the details such as timings and requirements (will the caricaturist be bringing an easel and lights or simply go from table to table) this will also give you another opportunity to get to know your caricaturist.

The advantage of hiring a caricaturist for your wedding entertainment is the fun and memorable gift your guests get to take home form you as a wonderful memento of your special day. Following the steps outlined above should help to ensure this part of your planning can be ticked off the list!

At most wedding receptions, there will be few speeches given during the course of the event. When done well, they can be very moving and memorable. When done poorly, the toasts can be embarrassing, boring, or can drag on forever. Find out how to plan the speeches at a wedding reception so that they are a nice addition to the event.

First of all, you should determine before your wedding who will give toasts. Typically, it will be the best man, the father of the bride, and the groom. There are others who may wish to say something as well, including the father of the groom (although he may have said his piece already at the rehearsal dinner), the maid of honor, and the bride. Sometimes the siblings of the bride and groom are also interested in giving toasts. It is generally best not to open the floor up to everyone at the reception, however, as the speeches can end up going on until the point where everyone is bored to tears.

Everyone who is going to speak should prepare a short speech beforehand to avoid rambling toasts that seem to go nowhere. A reasonable length for a wedding toast is two to five minutes. If you have a fairly large group of people who wish to give toasts, urge them to limit their remarks to two or three minutes. While that may not sound long, all of those short toasts can start to add up to a long time. The best time to fit the toasts into the schedule is during the salad course at dinner so people can eat while they listen. Never keep your guests waiting for food while the father of the bride goes on and on about how beautiful his little girl looks as a grown up bride in her long white gown and pearl wedding jewelry.

It is not a bad idea to give the people who will speak some hints about what is appropriate to include in a wedding toast - especially if your best man fancies himself a comedian. A good speech involves a few opening pleasantries, such as thanking everyone for coming. It can go on to talk about the first time that the speaker met the bride or groom (only if the story is suitable for guests of all ages!), wish the couple every happiness, etc. At no time should a speaker reveal something personal or embarrassing about the bride or groom or say something embarrassing in an attempt to be funny. Comments from the best man like, "The bride looks so pretty in her dress and wedding jewelry that no one would ever guess she is pregnant!" are never appropriate, whether it is true or not!

Something that will help keep your wedding toasts moving along at a good clip is to put someone in charge. This job can be undertaken by the band leader, m.c., or the best man. That individual should have a list of the order of speakers, so that he can prompt them to come to the microphone in the correct order. It cannot be emphasized enough that wedding guests do not enjoy sitting for a long time listening to toasts, so it is important to keep everything moving along in a timely manner.

Finally, if you will be having any videography at your wedding, be sure to get the toasts recorded. It will be fun to look back over the years and see how misty eyed your father got or how tongue tied the groom was when talking about his luck in marrying the perfect woman. When they are well planned, the toasts will be a nice addition to your wedding reception.

One of the most important decisions you'll make when planning your wedding is selecting that perfect gown, the one that will dazzle your fiancee, your friends and your family. Although your mind may be made up and your heart set on a particular style prior to going shopping, be sure to try on several different styles.

Your bridal consultant should not just be helpful and friendly, she should be knowledgeable and a good listener. Tell her what you're looking for. If you have pictures show them to her. Tell her where your wedding will be and when it will take place. All these things will help her determine which gowns in her store will best fit what you're looking for.

If your bridal consultant is pushy, insists you don't know what you want - but she does, or tries to get you to buy every dress you try on -- run out of the store. Purchasing your gown should be a fun experience.

Also realize that all gowns look great on the size 6 models in the pictures. Your body shape and size will make a difference on what style gown looks best on you. Be open to the suggestions of your bridal consultant. Oh and by the way - sizes for bridal gowns is different that the sizes you find at the mall or on ready to wear clothes. Wedding gowns use "European" sizing and run from one to two sizes small. That means if you usually wear a size 8 you'll probably be a size 10 in your bridal gown.

Be careful not to bring too many friends with you. Usually mom, grandma and a friend is plenty. When you have too many people giving their opinions it can be confusing and frustrating. Remember it's your day, it's your dress, and it's your decision - if you love it, that's what really counts.

You can never buy your wedding dress to early, but it's very easy to wait too long.

You may think that a bridal consultant is trying to pressure you when they encourage you to purchase your gown months in advance. Average time to order a dress is 12 - 17 weeks. Let me explain the process.

Almost all wedding gowns are manufactured in China. When a bridal shop sells a dress they call the manufacturer with the order. Most manufacturers accumulate orders through Friday. The orders are usually faxed or sometimes emailed to the actual manufacturing plant in China. The dress is then put into the production schedule. The cutting, sewing, embroidery, beading etc. is then done. This process can take several weeks.

Once the dress is completed at the manufacturing plant in China it is packaged and shipped by container to the U.S. When it arrives in the U.S. it must clear customs. This part of the process can take place quickly or take several days. (Sometimes the custom officials take extra time to inspect shipments looking for contraband, and other illegal items that are not allowed in the country.) After the dress clears customs it is shipped to the manufacturer's warehouse, it is checked in and then repackaged ready to ship to the bridal shop. Dresses are usually shipped regular UPS which can take 3-7 days depending on the distance from the warehouse to the bridal shop.

One more thing to take into consideration is Chinese New Year. This is a 15 day celebration in China and the dress manufacturers close down for it. That can mean an additional 2 weeks for delivery of your dress.

In our last newsletter we talked about how long it takes to actually make your dress, 12 - 17 weeks. Now we'll discuss some other advantages to ordering early.

Most bridal manufacturers actually come out with new styles 2 times each year, Spring and Fall. That also means that they discontinue dress styles 2 times a year. The bridal shop never knows which dresses will be discontinued and which will be held over to the next season.

If you put off ordering your dress it could be discontinued when you actually decide to buy. This could be a big disappointment for you.

By ordering your dress early you provide adequate time for alterations and for any other problems that could arise.

Alterations are usually done 6 - 8 weeks prior to the wedding. It is always best to schedule your appointment with the seamstress well in advance. This means 12-17 weeks for ordering the dress and another 6-8 weeks for alterations. So you can see that 5-6 months prior to the wedding is not too early to order.

Mistakes happen, fortunately in the bridal industry they are few and far between. Sometimes the manufacturer can make an error, anything from the wrong color fabric to sending the wrong size dress. Sometimes the bridal shop can make an error in ordering. This isn't to scare you. Both the manufacturer and the bridal shop are very careful with each detail and use several checks to make sure there isn't any error. But on the remote chance something doesn't go exactly as planned it is so much better to have ordered you dress well in advance so if a correction needs to be made there will be time.

Piece of mind. Knowing that your dress is ordered and you can get on with other aspects of your wedding is a big relief. Your stress level will go way down once this is taken care of.

So the advice is: When you find the "Perfect Dress" buy it. Period...End of story...Stop looking. But it that day! And especially if the gown is on a sale rack or is a one-of-a-kind sample.

Here are some suggestions to consider when choosing a printing press to make a wedding invitation, namely:

* First, a sample invitation that is always up to date. Printing, not only work to print wedding invitations or other printed materials, but also makes the design of printing. Printing a creative and innovative, always working and never stop creating new innovations in the creation. Printing an invitation only provide examples of it every year-that's obviously not a professional and reliable printing.
* Second, understand the desire of consumers to the right. Printing is good, could be consulted are fun to make the dream wedding invitation. Most brides have an idea of what they want in a wedding dress, even if it's only a little seed of an idea deeply embedded in our minds, so deep it's difficult to articulate what it looks like until we see it. Sometimes it is easy to find our dream dress, and other times you may be searching for quite a bit of time until you find the right one.

You may or may not be aware of the other important things to remember and consider when shopping for your perfect wedding dress. It's more than just falling in love with something that dazzles your eyes. It's more than picking what type of sleeves you want or the cut and fabric of the dress--there are much more practical concerns to consider as well.

I wanted to give you a rough guide of what to look for the next time you wander into a bridal shop looking for "the one."

Breathability & Move-ability

I'm sure you've all had the experience of wearing a dress or outfit in your lifetime that you practically had to hold your breath in. You wanted to wear it so bad you were going to take your chances and not move your arms up or down or bend the wrong way for fear of making a rip. Do you know what I'm talking about? On your wedding day, you don't want this to be you. Whatever dress you purchase, you want it to fit so nice and perfectly that you could run a marathon in it and still feel great. Okay, maybe not a marathon, but you get the point. You want to be able to breathe in your dress. You don't want it to be so tight and awkward that it hinders your ability to enjoy yourself on this truly special day in your life.

Sitting Down

When you try on your potential dream dress, try sitting down and getting back up. Is it easy to do? Because if it isn't this isn't going to be your dream dress. You should be able to move around (kind of goes with the above category of "move-ability"). Some dresses are just so big and bulky that brides can't sit down and get back up without help.

Bathroom Easiness

Speaking of sitting down, you'll definitely be needing to use the potty at some point during your wedding-probably at many points. How easy can you get your dress up and do your business? Does it require help? If you're okay with having an army of helpers in the bathroom with you while you do your business, then no worries here. But if you want to be able to use the bathroom without an audience, take this into consideration when settling on a dress.

On and Off

Can you get dressed by yourself? This is not always a problem because it's quite common for your mother and/or bridal party to help you get dressed. However, this is something some brides may wish to consider when choosing a wedding gown.

How Much does the Dress Cost?

A dress may be your dream gown, but does it fit into your wedding budget? I recommend figuring out exactly how much you are willing to pay for a dress and stick to those parameters. Purchasing a wedding gown of your dreams is a big deal, but remember that the wedding is only one day. You don't want to have to spend years paying off a dress you wore once.

Congruent with Your Theme

Depending on where you get married and what the theme is, this may impact the kind of dress you get. If you're having a beach wedding in the summer, obviously you may not want a long-sleeved gown with an extra long train, you know? You can figure out a lot about the style, fabric, cut, formal/informal dress that you buy based on the actual plans for the wedding.

Wishing you lots of luck and happy wedding gown shopping!
